You may recall from The Echo’s last issue a particular QR code calling to you filled with promises of free halal—and who could ever turn down such an alluring offer? But alas, no halal was involved; rather, a sneaky and perhaps cruel prank: an April Fools prank (albeit a few days early). Well, if you are looking for someone to blame, then I’ll admit it, it was I who made thee a fool. And if you seek revenge? Well, then feel free to prank my locker.
However, if you are truly looking for someone to blame for all your April mishaps, look no further than everyone’s favorite tea-devouring island, Britain. The holiday began to spread in Britain during the 1700s, with friends sending each other on phony errands and attaching “kick me” signs to each other’s behinds. In 1957, the BBC reported that farmers had yielded a record spaghetti crop, one of the first televised April Fools pranks. Nowadays, April Fools is celebrated in manifold ways: friends prank each other, companies announce joke products, and The New York Times releases a confounding Connections game.
That is all I have to share with thee for now, but watch your derriere, for more tomfoolery is forthcoming, April or not.
