Ocean is thrilled to serve as a co-editor-in-chief of The Echo for his senior year. Since joining in 2023, his roles have also included managing writer, club president, and Community section editor. Ocean adores agonizing over em dashes and sharing uncomfortable truths that open readers’ hearts and minds to new perspectives. His op-ed, “I’m a Transgender Teen and I’m Tired of Being Used as a Political Pawn,” won Youth Journalism International’s Jacinta Marie Bunnell Award for Commentary and Baruch College’s first place award in opinion writing. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in journalism.
