Have you been rotting on your couch for what feels like years? Are you tired of having no ideas of what to do this summer? I’ve got you.
You can do a whole lot with all your extra time over the summer—discover new crafts, snacks, or even a new hobby! With so much time, it can be hard to figure out what to do, but have no fear: Here’s a list of simple activities to do this summer…
If you’re interested in crafts, these are some easy, accessible ways to start:
- A convenient option is bracelet making: All you need is some beads and elastic string. You can order these online, or go to a craft or hardware store, like Michaels or Rainbow.
- If you can, another fun idea is painting seashells. To do this, you can start by buying shells or going to a beach (like Rockaway or Brighton on the A/D train) which is a fun activity in itself! Once you acquire the shells, go online or to a store and buy some paint. Then you can paint whatever you want!
Another fun thing to do is to make snacks or drinks you may not usually have time to, or ones that are particularly refreshing in the summer. Some ideas are:
- You can freeze grapes (the inside turns into a slushy-like texture—it’s seriously so good)!
- You can dip strawberries or pretty much anything else into melted chocolate.
- Another option is to make a charcuterie board with your choice of cheese, meat, crackers, fruit, etc.
- Another fruit-related idea is microwave tanghulu, which involves microwaving sugar water for one minute and dipping your fruit of choice into it.
- You can also melt down chocolate and marshmallows and make a s’mores dip for graham crackers or cookies.
Now, for drinks:
- A classic is a Shirley Temple (sprite and grenadine).
- Another idea is making classic cocktails (like a strawberry daiquiri or piña colada) but leaving out the alcohol (mocktails!).
- You can also experiment with flavors and see what tastes good.
