Made up of around 6% of our school’s male population, the boys’ soccer team is arguably the most successful team in HSMSE history. With two consecutive championships under their belt, this year’s team is fighting to hold onto their title for yet another season.
Back in 2023, the boys’ soccer team skillfully beat Hunter 1–0 in the PSAL championship game, with Rafael Corral scoring the winning goal. The boys defended their championship title and scored a seat in a better division, Manhattan A2. Within this division, the boys are playing some of the best male soccer teams in Manhattan. On October 6th, the boys lost 1–6 to Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics. After beginning their season undefeated, this loss reminded the team of the challenge they’re facing within this new division. After losing their next game 2–1 to Fiorello H Laguardia, the boys hope to regain control of their season and finish strong. They have since proven their dedication with their 5–4 win against Louis Brandeis on October 10th.
Despite the challenges the boys’ team has faced in past seasons and within this current one, their accomplishments and clear talent is irrefutable. This team has clinched a seat in the playoffs this season and now it’s just a matter of how far they can make it. HSMSE students are excited to see what they can do this year!
