The HSMSE baseball team, led by their coach, Mr. Zara, has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season. The team practices many mornings in the gym to train for the season. The team had two scheduled games but both were unfortunately canceled due to rain. However, the team has played several scrimmages. The team scrimmaged Stuyvesant HS at pier 40, and while they lost, they demonstrated skill and dedication to the team. They also beat A. Phillip Randolph in a scrimmage at Riverbank, and played several scrimmages against themselves, giving players a chance to practice on the field in preparation for the season. “I feel confident about the upcoming game against the High School of Art and Design,” says Daniel Shulman (Class of ‘26). The first games of the season will occur this week, Thursday 4/4 against Laguardia HS and Friday 4/5 also against Laguardia. There are 18 players on the team this year which is close to last year’s recorded number of players. Players are optimistic about their improvements and the future of the season. Truman Green (Class of ‘26) shares,“The team has great chemistry and I think we will make the playoffs this year.”
