Human Progression: A Dystopian Future

In the quiet hum of your morning routine, as your smart devices seamlessly synchronize with the rhythms of your life, there’s an unsettling undercurrent beneath the facade of normalcy. The coffee maker, with its robotic precision, seems more than a mere appliance. The refrigerator hums quietly, but feels as if it’s watching you. When convenience begins to blur with control, what kind of life do we live?

Without us realizing, smart assistants have evolved from handy helpers to omnipresent overseers. They monitor your every move, your every word, and even your deepest secrets. Your home is no longer a sanctuary but a puppet theater where these digital caretakers pull the strings. Picture a refrigerator that detects your mood and suggests comfort foods, or a smart thermostat that thinks it knows what’s right, deciding your ideal room temperature is now a brisk 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Over the years, computer algorithms have subtly controlled our lives. Now, it’s a reality: they dictate who you date, what you eat, and where you vacation. Forget about love at first sight; it’s now love at first algorithmic match. Your culinary preferences are curated by an all-knowing AI chef, and your vacation destination is chosen based on an algorithm’s prediction of your serotonin levels.

Human worth is dictated by numbers. Your identity is tied to their involvement in the system, your importance is determined by your emoji usage, social media posts, and follower count. Your online fame is equivalent to status, and the value of a handshake is measured in virtual likes. Your value as a human being is no longer gauged by your actions and contributions but by the click of a button, leaving you pondering whether that sarcastic tweet was worth the social exile that follows.

You live this hollow fate, in the world of technology where even the social media’s terms of use is part of law. But who owns this advanced technology? The MegaCorp. The amalgamation of all the top businesses in the world combined in a super entity, an entity that, much like overbearing relatives, has a say in everything you do. After decades of technological progression and capitalistic greed, the ultimate corporation with a wedge in every department of the government leads to the world now. A world where The MegaCorp controls your morning coffee, your favorite social media platforms, and even the air you breathe (patent pending). Governments are dancing on the strings of the MegaCorp, and every elected official is sponsored by them. Legislation isn’t made for the people, it’s for the company.

Take a real good look at the reality in front of you. Incomparable to the lives we had before, with much more freedom. Where did the world take a turn for the worst? When you think about it, was the convenience of having smart assistants take care of everything worth losing the ability to do things yourself? The MegaCorp’s existence is proof of the consequences of overreliance on technology, and the embodiment of our laziness, and unwillingness to act ourselves.
